BYU rolls past Weber State

For the second week in a row, BYU dominated WSU. The Cougars cruised to an easy victory over the Wildcats of Weber state, winning 45-13. The numbers weren’t quite as flawless as I was hoping for, but keeping in mind that we didn’t play our all of our starters for much more than a half, I’d say the experience gained by our newer players was worth giving up some yards and a couple of touchdowns. It was especially exciting to see James Lark and Taysom Hill take some reps at QB, and both looked good doing so.

What we know about Weber State (0-2)

After dropping its opening games to Fresno State and BYU, the Wildcats are gearing up for a much easier week as they will go on to face McNeese State. They definitely have a few positives to take away from this game, as they posted 13 points and 115 rushing yards against BYU’s defense. On the other side, they were able to tip and intercept a Riley Nelson pass, and recover a Cody Hoffman fumble, ending the game even on turnovers at 2-2 with BYU. It’s tough to start the season with two losses, but the Wildcats will feel better as they take on easier teams to beat.

What we know about BYU (2-0)

BYU’s starters ended the first half up 21-0. That number could have been higher, and there were times when it appeared that both the offense and defense were caught a bit off guard. Looking back, it’s kind of hard to be picky about a 45-13 win, but where there is room for improvement, you can be sure Bronco will be harping on that all week. Slow starts and turnovers will kill you against better teams, and BYU will need to play better if they expect a win up in Salt Lake next week. That’s right, the Holy War is upon us, and the Cougars will be getting ready to exact some revenge on the Utes for last season’s blowout in Provo. Hopefully their practiced up, rested up, healed up, and geared up for a great game on Saturday.
